BIO
Helen Clarke b.1979 is a British artist based in London and Hertfordshire, UK.
My practice engages with the materiality of place to interrogate the entanglements of contemporary relationships with the landscape. I weave aspects of folklore, heritage crafts and rural life with material culture to investigate the cycles and systems of time, fertility and production, considering both ecological histories and futures.
Collecting and foraging are an important part of my practice. Gathered whilst walking through a landscape, these materials, both the natural (wheat, stone, wood) and the discarded are re-contextualised through processes of material transformation, scale and repetition, creating sculptures that ruminate on the natural world, consumption and the body.
